Edfu Temple

Edfu was the first town where we disembarked for sightseeing.

Here, horse-drawn carriages are still very commonly used, especially for tourists. We took one to the Edfu Temple.

One of several temples built during the Ptolemaic period, Edfu Temple is the second largest temple in Egypt, after Karnak Temple in Luxor. It is also one of the best preserved. The inscriptions on the walls provide important information on language, myth and religion during the ancient Egyptian time.

The crowd inside the temple was incredible and many of us did not go all the way to the back as it was almost impossible to move even an inch without having to squeeze, weave and cut queue.

Riding on the horse-drawn carriage made me
feel like ‘going back in time a few decades’
