High Dam, Aswan

Aswan is famous for its High Dam and Lake Nasser, which is the world’s largest man-made lake created when the High Dam was built. The lake stretches from Aswan all the way to Abu Simbel.

The High Dam was built to replace the older Aswan Dam, also known as Aswan Low Dam. The purpose of the dam was to prevent the river’s flooding, generate electricity and provide water for agriculture.
