The Pyramids and Sphinx, Giza

Pyramids! This is it – this is what I have come to Egypt for!

Was I impressed? Was I disappointed?

Yes, I was impressed and I found it hard to believe that ‘finally, and finally, I am seeing it real and close-up’! Unbelievable!

It was a pity we had such a short and limited time. Some members in the group complained (to the tour guide) that we did not have enough time and the reply was, ‘we have a very tight schedule and that we actually had more time than many other tour groups.’ Similarly for the visit to the Egyptian Museum – so much to see, so little time we had.

So, if you are a history or archaeology buff, either you visit Egypt on your own or extend your stay!

There are 108 pyramids in Egypt. All the while I thought there are only three. I was not totally wrong! The three which I knew are the biggest and the most famous one, and they are located in Giza, a short distance away from the city of Cairo.

Oh, yes, I learnt that pyramids are tombs for the kings and queens only.

The Sphinx? It is not as impressive as I thought it to be.

Close-up view of the pyramid

The triangle shape above is the original entrance to the tomb.
The smaller one below (with people) is the present entrance.

Inside the tomb of one of the smaller pyramids behind
one of the ‘big’ pyramids. Had to climb down a very
narrow and steep ramp. It was dark, crowded, hot and stifling.

Deserts without camels are like aquariums without fish…

…and we had our 5-minute-only camel
ride right at where the pyramids are
